Thanks for the web page! I finished Clarke in 68 and would love to hear from class mates from 66-69. I am married to Virginia Carol Dees who also attended Clarke and was a cheer leader in 68. We have 2 children, a son Barrett a soph. at Auburn and a daughter, Brynn a freshman at The Univ. of Mobile. I am the Director of Evangelism for the Alabama Baptist State Convention. I hope to hear from some of "The Clarke Family" soon.

Just wanted to say "Hello" to all of you you stay in contact...I have missed talking with you, although I think of you all almost everyday of my life. I am now a retired teacher, have been married for 36 years, have 2 children and two great grandchildren. This past month, my brother, sister, dad and i traveled to the campus to see the changes...we took pictures at the memorial, and had a great time remembering. My parents had 4 children and all of us attended Clarke, with 3 of us graduating. We all became teachers at some time in our lives...I stayed with it the longest, now starting to work on nursing certification...one never retires from giving and sharing of life so long as we have life to give...let us know of future get-togethers...we'd love to know and possibly attend...love you all...Sherry

Hello friends of Clarke Memorial College. Next to receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, marrying my wife Martha, having 2 great sons, Clarke was the best thing in my life. I cannot express the gratitude I feel for all the professors and friends of Clarke College. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering emphasis created a burning desire for missions which is still glowing today. Do you remember those times? I attended Clarke College where I met my first husband, Jimmie O Barber. Jimmie played baseball and basketball at Clarke and graduated in 1969. In August of 1976, he died of colon cancer at the age of 27. Together we had one child, Karen. There is soooooooooooo many memories that just warm my heart.. I look at the annuals and just wonder what happened to everyone. Right before my son left with the 101st Airborne to a 13 month tour in Mosul, Iraq, I visited him and on my return trip back to Louisiana, my son-in-law and i stopped at Clarke in search of the trees planted in his memory. It had been quite a few years and I was so stunned by the change. It was after dark, but i had the chance to walk on the grounds. I thank God that I had the chance to be a part of Clarke Memorial College and the friends and "family" that so dearly warms my heart. We laughed, we cried, and we even got those silly "demerits"... gee, how could anyone forget those???? ha.!

Hello, I found out about this from the Baptist Record. I attended Clarke College in 1968-69. I graduated in 1969. I loved Clarke College, and it breaks my heart to know it has been torn down. I look through my annual from time to time and wonder about a lot of people. I hope to hear from some of my classmates through this website. A little about myself, I'm married to Jimmy Griffin, we have two children, Chad and Alisha, who are both married. We have been married for almost 30 years.
We have two grandsons. I am Co-Manager of a new Save-A-Lot grocery store here in Houston. My husband works for Jitney Jungle. We are both in the grocery business. Again, I am happy I found this site, and hope to hear from someone I know. May God Bless You

The love and warmth of Clarke College burns within my heart as an eternal flame. Lowry Edwards, also a student at Clarke, was my room mate at Delta State University. I lost a wonderful friend and lawyer at his death. Bill Baker was pastor at my home church Dumas, and Bill McCreary [wife Linda] is the County Missionary. I see Clarke alumni when least expected like the world's fair and Wal-Mart. Does anyone know anything about John Carter? My wonderful wife (Angel) Ann and I started life together as man and wife in Pensacola. We now enjoy state retirement in the small town of New Albany, Mississippi: But, I do work December in the Christmas season if one chooses to call it work. I would appreciate your time in sending a note and promise a reply.

It had been 37 years. The memories flooded through my mind as I drove into Newton and onto the hill where Clarke College once stood. As I stood and gazed, I remembered:
1967-1969 were two of the most memorable and influential years in my life.
Chapel services on the second floor of the student building.
Playing on the basketball team with Jimmy Barber, Jim Thurman, Jimmy Dale Nazary and our coach, James Spencer.
Huddleston Hall, the boys dorm and my roommates, Arnold Fuller and Terry Thrasher.
Pop McGaugh and biology class in the science building
The snow storm and snow ball fights on the square
The post office where we all got much anticipated mail from home
Dr. Carter's Bible class
Mrs. Key's English Literature class
The BSU and the Lottie Moon star in the chapel
Oh, there were many more, but most of all I remembered the wonderful Christian family atmosphere Clarke fostered among us all and the many friendships kindled there.
Many of whom over the years, to my dismay, I had not heard from nor kept in touch with.
Then I stopped by the Memorial and found this website. What excitement I felt as perhaps, through the internet, I could get back in touch with many of my classmates and those old friendships could be rekindled. A great big thank you to the Alumini Association.
So, any of you from the classes of 66-70 please drop me an email and let me know where you are so we can keep in touch.
My wife of 38 years, Sandi, and I live in Ocala, Fl and God has richly blessed us with two Sons, both graduates of Samford University. God has used us over the years in our churches as Sunday school teachers, youth workers, deacon, scoutmaster and Sandi plays in our church orchestra of The First Baptist Church of Ocala.
Clarke College may be gone, but the wonderful memories and her influence will be with us always.

This is an update. Jim and I moved to Lucedale March, 2001. He accepted the pastorate of First Presbyterian Church Lucedale and preached his first sermon as pastor on Easter Sunday. He had been pastor of Hamilton Presbyterian for 30 years.
We are enjoying it down here but miss the kids and grandkids who are still in North, Ms. (Hamilton & Starkville). Between us we have 5 kids and ten grandkids with one on the way. I have one granddaughter who is Little Alice. Got to be a good kid.
We are hoping to be at the reunion but the Presbytery has come up with a new deal for Pastor's and Spouses for that weekend so we may miss it again but are hoping we will be able to miss the Presbyterian deal for the Baptist deal. Bro. Jim says that I am and official Babterian and he knows he will never get the Bab out of me. He is probably right.
